Drum kit grades are an excellent way to measure progress — and at Grades 6–8, most boards carry UCAS and GCSE credit. Here's a guide to every exam board I teach towards, so you can pick the syllabus that suits your playing.
Trinity College London — Drum Kit
Officially recognised and established, spanning a wide range of styles across jazz, funk, Latin and musical theatre pathways.
Rockschool — Drums
A major exam board offering a recognised qualification in Percussion – Drum Kit, with UCAS and GCSE credit available from Grades 4–8.
Trinity Rock & Pop — Drums
Popular with drummers who want to master important, well-known songs from the past 60 years while working towards a recognised grade.
ABRSM — Drum Kit
ABRSM's newest syllabus, launched in 2024 — assessed via video-recorded Performance Grade exams across pop, funk, rock and hip-hop styles. UCAS points are available at Grades 6–8.
